A friend of mine has asked me to move his domain and his emails to yourselves. His business relies totally on emails! Do you have a sequential actions to be taken, with yourselves and with his previous domain host, that will obviate any e-mail downtime? R

Hi Roger, the basic procedure for transferring a domain is as follows: 1) Setup the account on our server with email addresses created ready for when the domain swaps over. 2) If the domain is a .uk domain then we need you to get he IPS tag of the domain changed. If the domain is .com, .net etc then you will need to get the domain unlocked and give us the EPP auth key. 3) We transfer over the domain (this can take any where from 2 hours to 48 depending on how quickly the involved parties respond). 4) Once the domain has transferred over we can re point it to the account you have with us, this can take anywhere from 2 to 48 hours for the changes to update for everyone. During this period any email sent could go to either the new account with us or the old one with the provider. 5) Once that period is over everything will be on our servers and the process is complete. Doing in this way would avoid any downtime or lost mails. If you have any further questions you can ask here or via our sales email address. Admin

Sorry to hijack this thread but I thought my question would be more suitable here than anywhere else. When I signed up with dream-hosting.co.uk I attached my account to a domain that I already had. My domain is due to run out in April and I no longer wish to have that domain. I want a new domain. What will I have to do in order to link a new domain to my account? Will it be as simple as me attaching my nameservers to the new domain?...or will it be a bit more trickier than that? I would really appreciate some help ![]()

you may wish to check that and links in your current site code are not linked to your old domain name. but apart from that it took minutes for me and kept me informed al the way. you would still need to change the name servers for the new domain or even better transfer it over to dreamhosting. | |

Hi, Basically its very simple to change your account to a new domain, you just need to ask us in a support ticket when your ready to change to the new domain and we will sort it out for you. As you quite rightly said you will just need to change the name servers of your new domain to the same as your old one and we will do the rest (if you order the domain through us we can even handle this bit for you). Let me know if I can help further, either on here or at the support desk. Admin
