I’m looking for recommendations for a free message board service. The only other stipulation I have is that when folks register they must enter their real name and email address as part of the registration process.
Any ideas guys?

Phpbb is probably the most popular free message boards around, full of features, including the ones you are after. Below is the link to their website:

Every one of our packages comes with phpbb available to intall from the web hosting control panel for free.

A word of warning though, make sure you keep an install up to date yourself as the cpanel software doesnt always keep their versions up to date and with software like this people will always be finding and using exploits.

I have tried a few bulletin boards and found Yabb the most flexible, email address is mandatory for the registration process (you have to acknowledge the email which contains a hyperlink), and you can add mods, one of them being additional registration fields(mandatory or not) eg: "real name".

Of course with any registration process theres no failsafe method of obtaining a real name (for example my name might be Fred but who knows?)
